EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers are playing the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the 2024 playoffs.

The series doesn't start until Monday night - when the Oilers kick off their playoff run at Rogers Place with an 8:00 PM start time.
That is important context to have in light of today's news - the Oilers have loaned Philip Broberg and Adam Erne to the Bakersfield Condors. Both players played last night, with Broberg playing over 17 minutes in the 5-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

The Condors play a back-to-back to close out their regular season. This is the most likely reason for Erne and Broberg being sent down.
I suspect that Broberg will be recalled in the near future. He has a particular set of skills that will be helpful to the team in the playoffs.
Should any injury arise, he will be the first defenseman called up. He's shown that he is a very capable defender in (at the very least) a third pairing role.
For these two players specifically, it's better if they play meaningful games with the Condors rather than eat popcorn with the NHL club.
