The Edmonton Oilers have been in need of some organizational depth in net despite what the netminders have done at both the NHL and AHL level this season. Past Olivier Rodrigue, it is a bit of a tossup as to the talent level in net.

The Oilers were aware of this and went out and signed the top goaltender in the U Sports - Ontario University Athletic Association. Edmonton inked Connor Ungar to a two-year entry-level deal and the prospect is close to home as he grew up in Calgary.

There are a few things that should happen with the goaltending next season. The first is that Jack Campbell, despite his bounce-back in the AHL, will likely be bought out, creating a spot in the AHL. Rodrigue will also be required to pass through waivers next season, so it is a question of if he will make the Oilers. Finally, Calvin Pickard has played well enough to earn himself another contract. If he doesn't get extended in Edmonton, there will be two open spots in the AHL. If he does, there is still more than enough room for Ungar to come in and compete for a spot to potentially be the next goalie on his way up through the system.

Ungar posted an impressive 20-6-0 record on the season for the Brock Badgers. He stands out by having a 2.15 GAA and .932 SV% on the season as well. Per the Oilers, he will report to the Bakersfield Condors and may see some time. At the very least, he will start to get acclimated to life as a pro behind a veteran and another very talented young goalie.
