The newly re-signed Los Angeles Kings forward has an interesting tie to the Edmonton Oilers organization.

EDMONTON -- The hockey community is a small world.
There are only a few degrees of separation between most players, coaches and general managers. Recently extended Los Angeles Kings forward Quinton Byfield has a unique connection to the Edmonton Oilers organization.

Obviously Byfield plays in the same division as the Oilers. But the connection isn't as obvious as that.
Byfield is represented by Wasserman Hockey. His agent at Wasserman is none other than David Gagner. David is the father of Sam Gagner, who was drafted by the Oilers and spent the 2023-24 season with them.

Additionally, David also knows the Oilers interim General Manager, Jeff Jackson. Sam was the first player that Jackson represented when he started his player agent career in 2010.
After playing in the NHL for 17 seasons, he began his post-playing career as an assistant coach. In 2006 he joined the OHL's London Knights coaching staff, where he spent two seasons. After that, Mike Gillis recruited him to serve as the Director of Player Development for the Vancouver Canucks. He would serve in that capacity from the 2008-09 season to the 2012-13 season.

From there he joined the Orr Hockey Group as a player agent. In 2018 Wasserman bought equity in the Orr Hockey Group, which led to the creation of Wasserman Hockey. David is currently an executive vice president of Wasserman Hockey.
