According to coach Paul Coffey, the Edmonton Oilers have to do everything by committee.

EDMONTON -- "We're the type of team that has to do it by committee."

Edmonton Oilers coach Paul Coffey said those words at the end of last week when he joined Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now. During their conversation, they discussed many topics, focusing on a few members of the Oilers defense.

This team may have Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but everyone needs to pull together to win.

"We've got Connor, we've got Leon," Coffey said to Stauffer, "But, we need to score by committee, we need to defend by committee, and we need to fight by committee."

They have certainly fought by committee.

The Oilers have recently had three big fights involving the likes of Darnell Nurse, Corey Perry, and Troy Stecher. Coffey discussed the impact of the fights involving the Oilers blueliners on the team.

"Darnell did what he should do, went after (Michael) McCarron, for him taking a run at one of our best players," Coffey stated. "That's what brings the team together."

Perhaps, bigger than the Nurse fight the other night was one a few nights prior. Stecher made Philadelphia Flyers' forward Sean Courturier answer the bell for knocking over Stuart Skinner behind the net.

Coffey described the impact that fight had on the game.

"Everybody (in the crowd) is standing up, everybody's into it, everybody's excited," Coffey revealed.

"You get a goal here, kid, and you could be the mayor of Edmonton."

A fight can do a lot for a team. In addition to the physical fisticuffs we've seen, the team has been fighting back on the ice during the game.

The Oilers may have lost their last game against the Dallas Stars, but they have a chance tonight to fight back against the Carolina Hurricanes.

This team is taking a while to get going. However, it will take more than just a committee to stop them once they do.
