Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports - RUMOR: Draisaitl Willing to Play For Bruins

EDMONTON -- All is right with the world, for now.

The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 to win their series in five games. They now wait for their next opponent. The immediate future looks bright - but there are rumblings that a playoff run that ends too soon could spell the end of one superstar's tenure in Edmonton.

According to some reporting - the Oilers could be in trouble when it comes to re-signing Leon Draisaitl.

Georges Laraque spoke on 91.9 FM in Montreal about Draisaitl's extension situation, "someone well placed in the organization said that if the Oilers don't go deep in the playoffs he doesn't see Draisaitl re-signing at the end of his deal."

"He'd prefer to be a first-line center in Boston."

    My Take

Seeing this kind of report makes sense on a couple levels. For starters, the Oilers organization hasn't won anything in a very long time.

Two - there is only so much losing that one player can take. At some point they need to go to a different environment that is better for them. If Draisaitl wants to go to an organization that's focused on winning, it's tough to pick a better team than the Boston Bruins.

The key part to this whole report is this - it hinges on how far the Oilers go in the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs. If Draisaitl didn't want to be in Edmonton, he wouldn't be taking his game to another level (like he is right now).

It's only a smart career decision to be prepared for any situation that befalls you - and it certainly sounds like Draisaitl has his back up plan.
