Things are starting to slow down a bit as the NHL moves closer to what would be considered its dog days of summer.
The glamor and excitement of free agency wore off a while ago, and with development camps wrapped up across the league, it’s starting to get mighty quiet in the hockey world.
That doesn’t mean things aren’t happening here at THN Florida, where the hustle never stops!
Here are all the stories we covered over the past week, in case you missed any, or just want to get caught up:
Following the conclusion of development camp, Panthers Director of Player Personnel Bryan McCabe provided his thoughts on several of Florida’s top young prospects, his overall feelings on development camp and more.
While there was a good amount of attention given to the camp participants having fun away from the rink, they also took some time to volunteer and do some good for the South Florida community.
Also stemming from dev camp, we explore the Panthers Goaltending Excellence Department targeting Olof Glifford in this year’s NHL Draft, and his excellent performance last week in Coral Springs.
THN Florida handed out its first honor roll awards, for Panthers players who performed above and beyond expectations last season.
Sam Reinhart’s lavish California wedding was featured in People Magazine and the Panthers launched a new mobile app, all around the same time Florida re-signed two defensemen, Casey Firzgerald and John Ludvig, to two-way deals.
THN explored what a fully healthy Florida defensive corps could mean for the team next season, particularly when it comes to times like the trade deadline.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson spoke to the South Florida media for the first time since signing with the Panthers on July 1, and he said one of the main reasons he chose to sign with the Panthers was that he wanted to go somewhere he felt he could win.
Another THN feature looked into ascending goal scorer Carter Verhaeghe and how he keeps putting more pucks in the net despite seeing very little time on the power play.
Two former Panthers players were hired last week as NHL assistant coaches, joining the ranks of many ex-Florida players who made the move behind the bench post-retirement.
We also discussed Ryan Lomberg, who, while becoming a fan favorite and integral part of the Panthers culture, has also started a family and planted some roots in South Florida.
