Samoskevich picked up an assist during two games with Charlotte after being loaned to the Checkers last week

Florida Panthers rookie Mackie Samoskevich is back with the team after a brief stint in the AHL.

On Tuesday, the Panthers recalled the 21-year-old from the Charlotte Checkers.

Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice said Monday that some players were under the weather, and this move would seem to be related to that.

When the Panthers took the ice for warmups on Tuesday prior to their game against San Jose, Florida Captain Sasha Barkov was not out there. 

It was already known that forward William Lockwood would be making his Panthers debut against the Sharks, but when the roster was finalized, Barkov was left off. 

Both Samoskevich and Lockwood would both be playing. 

Samoskevich started the year with Florida and skated in each of the Panthers first two games of the season before he was loaned to Charlotte last Tuesday.

Rookie Justin Sourdif, who played in each of the past three games with the Panthers, was loaned to the Checkers on Monday after practicing with Florida.

During his time in Charlotte, Samoskevich played in two games and picked up an assist, two shots on goal and a minus-1 rating.

Neither Samoskevich nor Sourdif has picked up a point in the NHL, yet.
