The Wild hit the ice today and head coach John Hynes is expected to give a full update on injured defenseman Brock Faber.
ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild should finally get some clarity on Brock Faber's injury Tuesday.
Faber was officially placed on injured reserve Monday as the Wild finalized their opening-night roster, confirming that the 24-year-old defenseman will miss at least the beginning of the regular season.
Now, the biggest question is how much time he will miss.
Faber has been sidelined since taking a puck to the side of the head during Friday's preseason finale against the Dallas Stars. He went down immediately after being struck but was eventually able to skate off under his own power.
Faber returned for his next shift and finished the second period before being held out of the third.
Wild head coach John Hynes said Saturday that Faber was doing well, but Minnesota was taking a cautious approach because of where he was struck.
Faber did not participate in practice Saturday and remained off the ice Sunday. Hynes said following Sunday's practice that Faber was at home resting and that the Wild expected to have another update when the team returned Tuesday.
Minnesota had Monday off.
The Wild placed Faber on injured reserve later Monday ahead of the NHL's roster deadline. His placement on IR was retroactive to Friday, when the injury occurred.
That will keep Faber out of Minnesota's regular-season opener Thursday against the Nashville Predators.
Minnesota is scheduled to practice Tuesday, when Hynes is expected to provide another update on Faber's condition and potentially a clearer timeline for his return.
Faber's absence leaves a significant hole on Minnesota's blue line.
He was expected to begin the season alongside Quinn Hughes on the Wild's top defensive pairing after emerging as one of Minnesota's most important defensemen.
Faber is entering the second season of the eight-year, $68 million contract he signed with Minnesota in 2024.
For now, the Wild know they will be without him Thursday. Whether his absence extends beyond opening night should become clearer today.
