The Devils suffered their second shutout of the season Monday afternoon in Boston.

On Monday afternoon, the New Jersey Devils suffered a 3-0 to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. It marked the second time the club was shut out this season.
The Devils will return to New Jersey, earning three out of six possible points.
New Jersey surrendered the game's opening goal 7:35 into the opening frame when Boston's James van Riemsdyk scored on the power play. Devils' head coach Lindy Ruff challenged the play for off-side and, after review, was successful as David Pastrnak entered the offensive zone before the puck.
It was a scoreless game after 20 minutes. The Bruins held a 16-9 shot advantage over the Devils. New Jersey was also down to five defensemen after Brendan Smith sustained an apparent injury early in the opening frame.
The Bruins scored 30 seconds into the second period to take a 1-0 lead. Charlie Coyle's backhand shot got past Devils goaltender Nico Daws. Brad Marchand and Pastrnak collected the assists.
The physicality increased in the second period as Charlie McAvoy and Michael McLeod were called for roughing, and Marchand got tangled with rookie defenseman Simon Nemec. No penalties were called on the latter.
After 40 minutes, the Bruins held a 1-0 lead. The Devils had a 10-9 shot advantage in the middle frame.
Boston extended their lead to 2-0 with Pastrnak's 26th goal of the season. It was his second point of the afternoon. McAvoy and Marchand were credited with the assists.
Devils head coach Lindy Ruff pulled Daws with over two minutes remaining in the third period, with his team down by two. New Jersey could not sustain any time in the offensive zone, and Bruins forward Trent Frederic shot into the empty net to secure a 3-0 victory for Boston.
Devils goaltender Nico Daws made 33 saves on 35 shots.
