When looking at the New Jersey Devils' roster, it is fair to argue that they could use another forward. While bringing in a big-name forward at this stage of the summer would be difficult for the Devils, they could use the free-agent market to improve their depth on offense.
Due to this, one unrestricted free agent who could make a lot of sense for the Devils to consider pursuing is forward Joel Kiviranta.
Kiviranta played this past season with the Colorado Avalanche, where he set new career highs with 16 goals, seven assists, and 23 points in 79 games. With numbers like these, the 29-year-old winger would have the potential to give the Devils a bit more secondary scoring. This would certainly be a good thing for the Metropolitan Division club.
If the Devils signed Kiviranta, he would offer them another solid option for their bottom six to work with. He also has plenty of experience killing penalties because of his strong defensive play, so he could assist the Devils in this area if signed, too.
Kiviranta would also give the Devils another forward with a good amount of playoff experience, as he has played in 51 career post-season games split between the Dallas Stars and Avalanche. This could beneficial for a Devils team with high expectations.
Nevertheless, with the Devils needing more forward depth, bringing in a player like Kiviranta on a one-year contract or even through a professional tryout (PTO) could be worth considering.
