This young Devils defenseman is heating up in the AHL.

Back in November, the New Jersey Devils made the big decision to send defenseman Simon Nemec down to the Utica Comets. This was after the 2022 second-overall pick had one assist and a minus-2 rating in nine games this season with the Devils.

Nemec had become the odd man out on the Devils' blueline, so it made sense for them to move the youngster down to the AHL to work on his development. Since being sent down to the Comets, he has two goals, seven points, and a plus-2 rating in 17 contests.

However, what is encouraging is that Nemec is starting to heat up significantly with the Comets. Over his last three games with the AHL squad, he has two goals, three points, and a plus-2 rating. He also has five points in his previous six contests, so he is undoubtedly finding his offensive game at the AHL level.

Nemec has extremely high potential and is considered a significant part of the Devils' future. Thus, it is a good sign that he is starting to thrive in the AHL. If he keeps this kind of play up, he could get another shot on the NHL roster before the season ends.
