The Dallas Stars have announced that they have fired former New Jersey Devils head coach Pete DeBoer.

DeBoer, 56, had been the Stars' head coach for each of the last three seasons (2022-23 and 2024-25). During that time, the former Devils head coach led the Stars to the Western Conference Final all three years. However, they lost each of those series, including this spring to the Edmonton Oilers in five games.

Stars general manager Jim Nill released this statement following firing DeBoer.

"After careful consideration, we believe that a new voice is needed in our locker room to push us closer to our goal of winning the Stanley Cup. We’d like to thank Pete for everything that he has helped our organization achieve over the past three seasons and wish him nothing but the best moving forward."

DeBoer spent four seasons as head coach of the Devils from 2011-12 to 2014-15. In 248 games as New Jersey's bench boss, he recorded a 114-93-41 record. This including leading the Devils to Stanley Cup Final in 2012, where they fell to the Los Angeles Kings in six games.
