The Seattle Kraken have announced that they have signed former New Jersey Devils forward John Hayden to a two-year, one-way contract extension. Starting next season, he will carry a $775,000 cap hit.

Hayden, 30, appeared in 20 games this season with the Kraken, where he had one goal, one assist, 31 penalty minutes, and 44 hits. The former Devils forward also recorded 11 goals and 27 points in 44 games this season with the Kraken's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Hayden has been a solid depth forward for the Kraken over the last three seasons, so it is understandable that they have signed him to this contract extension. He will now continue to be an experienced call-up option for the Kraken over the next two campaigns after earning this extension.

Hayden spent the 2019-20 season as a member of the Devils. In 43 games with the Metropolitan Division club that season, he had three goals, one assist, 77 penalty minutes, 87 hits, and a minus-2 rating. His time with the Devils ended when he signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Coyotes during the 2020 NHL off-season.
