The New Jersey Devils' blue line will be without one of their best defensemen.

Jonas Siegenthaler sustained a lower-body injury on Jan. 4 against the Pittsburgh Penguins when he caught an edge skating through the neutral zone. After the game, head coach Sheldon Keefe said Siegenthaler "is going to miss some time, for sure."

On Tuesday, Keefe announced Siegenthaler underwent a procedure during the 4 Nations Face-Off break and will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks.

The 27-year-old has been one of New Jersey's most reliable defensemen and is amid a bounce-back season. Through 55 games, he has been instrumental on the penalty kill and has the second-most blocked shots (92).

The Devils called up Simon Nemec from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL) for the team's final two games before the 4-Nations break, with mixed results. On Tuesday, the club recalled both Nemec and rookie defenseman Seamus Casey.

New Jersey's next game will be Saturday night against Brendan Smith and the Dallas Stars
