Brian Dumoulin is one of the New Jersey Devils’ most notable pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs). He proved to be a solid trade deadline addition for the Devils, but there is a realistic chance that he will hit the market on July 1.

If Dumoulin does become available at the start of next month, he should generate a good amount of interest. Because of this, let’s go over three teams who could look to sign him now.

    New York Rangers

The Rangers will likely look to improve the left side of their defense this off-season, so they could be a team to watch when it comes to Dumoulin. The veteran defenseman could be a nice fit on their third pairing and would also work on their penalty kill.

After trading Ryan Lindgren to the Colorado Avalanche at the deadline, the Rangers could use a steady defensive defenseman on their roster. Thus, Dumoulin could be a good fit there.

    Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings need to strengthen the left side of their defense this off-season, so they could be a team that pursues Dumoulin. If the Red Wings landed Dumoulin, he would be a candidate to receive top-four minutes.

Dumoulin could also be an appealing target for the Red Wings because of his playoff experience. With Detroit looking to take that next step and get back into the post-season, Dumoulin would be a solid veteran for them to bring in.

    Pittsburgh Penguins

A reunion between the Penguins and Dumoulin would be interesting. One of the biggest weaknesses on their roster right now is the left side of their defense, and signing Dumoulin could help improve things a bit on that front.

On a short-term, affordable deal, Dumoulin could be a nice player for the Penguins to bring back to help mentor their young players as they continue their retool.

It is fair to say that Bahl benefited from the change of scenery, as he cemented himself as a nice part of the Flames' defensive group this season.
