During a recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that New Jersey Devils forward Cody Glass is generating plenty of interest with July 1 just about here.
"Another player, I heard, I think has some interest in him is Cody Glass," Friedman said. "New Jersey indicated that they weren't going to qualify him. I think their goal was to sign him to a smaller deal that wasn't as high as potentially his arbitration number or qualifying number. But I've heard that there's a lot of interest in Glass. Right-shot centers, and obviously he's not going to break the bank or anything like that, but I heard it's going to be hard for the Devils to be able to do that."
It was previously reported by Friedman in a recent 32 Thoughts column that the Devils are not sending Glass a qualifying offer. With this, he will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, so it makes sense that there are teams ready to pursue him.
Glass, 26, would have the potential to be a solid pickup for a team looking for help in their bottom six. The 6-foot-3 forward has shown during his career that he can provide decent secondary offensive production in a depth role. In 65 games this season split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Devils, he had six goals and 22 points. He also had 14 goals and 35 points in 72 games with the Nashville Predators in 2022-23.
It will be very interesting to see what ends up happening with Glass this off-season. It sounds like he will have plenty of options to consider once he hits the market, and it won't be easy for the Devils to bring him back if they wish to because of it.
