Seeing the Devils extend Kovacevic is not particularly surprising. The 27-year-old defenseman has cemented himself as a key part of the Devils' blueline this season due to his steady defensive play. Now, he has earned this long-term deal and significant raise because of it.
In 63 games this campaign with the Devils, Kovacevic has one goal, 14 points, 81 blocks, 83 hits, and a plus-11 rating. With this, he needs just two more points to set a new career-high.
It will be interesting to see how Kovacevic responds after earning this big contract through his play from here.
