The New York Islanders officially announced the hiring of ex-Boston Bruins' assistant general manager Evan Gold on Saturday morning.

Most notably, the Islanders announced that Gold has replaced Chris Lamoriello as General Manager of the team's AHL Squad, with Gold becoming the Hammers' first-ever General Manager.

Per the release from the Islanders:

"The New York Islanders announced today that the club has hired Evan Gold as Assistant General Manager and General Manager of the Hamilton Hammers. He joins Mathieu Darche’s Hockey Operations staff and will be involved in all facets of the club’s hockey operations, including contract negotiations, roster strategy, professional and amateur scouting, salary cap management, and other areas that fit his expertise."

Gold, 46, joins as the Islanders' fourth assistant general manager, 

New York's newest AGM had worked for the Bruins since 2015-16 and has served as their assistant general manager since 2019-20. 

Since 2023-24, Gold also served as the general manager of the Providence Bruins, the club's AHL affiliate. The news initially broke last week, with Stefen Rosner reporting on it here:

Gold is an analytical guy. 

The Bruins announced on July 14 that Gold would be departing the organization after 11 seasons of service.

Gold's initial job title was Director of Hockey Operations, from 2015 until 2019, when Gold was promoted to AGM.

Since 2023-24, Gold also served as the general manager of the Providence Bruins, the club's AHL affiliate. 

Gold's analytical focus makes him a strong fit for the Islanders, along with his elite experience.
