Getting Alex Wennberg is a good thing for more than one reason for the Rangers.

Congratulations to Chris Drury for having the good sense to ignore The Maven's advice -- not to disrupt chemistry with trades -- and doing it.

Getting Alex Wennberg is a good thing and not because I was the first to mention him as a possible New York Ranger about a month ago. (See below!)

Some deals just make a whole lot of sense and this one tops the list because it leaves the current roster intact and that could mean the hotsy-totsy explosive, BIGGIE will happen before the Trade Deadline.

Or, as "We Did Everything But Win" Rangers historian George Grimm notes: "It filled a need and didn't cost us and probably won't affect team chemistry the way last year's Patrick Kane fiasco did."

Wennberg, at 29 is in his playing prime and has the size (6-2, 190 pounds) which is needed by the Blueshirts attacking corps.

Plus, his ten years worth of NHL experience with Seattle, Florida and Columbus represents another asset. And let's not forget that he was a first round pick -- 14th overall -- by Columbus in the 2013 Draft.

Now we all take the annual "Who'll Blow Us Away On The Last Day?" deep breath as the clock relentlessly ticks toward the deadline minute.

The fear, of course, is that -- being pressured from above -- Drury will do a Glen Sather and give away too much while obtaining too little.

Maven says not to worry. And, yeah, I reiterate that Drury does NOT have to make another subtraction from his very solid roster.

    Am I right, Chris?

So far, no answer so we'd better continue the deep breaths until the clock strikes

    "Too Late!"
