In a video posted on Tkachuk's social media, the Sens' former captain reflected on his tenure and addressed a divided fan base.

After eight years with the Ottawa Senators, Brady Tkachuk will be playing NHL hockey somewhere else this fall.

With two years still left on his contract, Tkachuk requested a trade shortly after the season, and after three or four weeks of trying, the Sens dealt him to Florida on Sunday to play with his brother next season.

The reaction in Sens Nation was all over the map. But everyone had a reaction.

Many were furious that Tkachuk would bail on the team and not at least see his contract through to the end. Some were happy with the deal, while others were quietly sad to see their captain go.

Tkachuk took to social media on Tuesday to say thank you to the fans, along with a video of some of his highlights over the years. Depending on your perspective, it's sure to bring either tears or eye rolling. If you're a Sens fan, something is going to happen in your ocular region.

The intent was to say thank you and remind fans of the good times and his many interactions with fans and kids over the years.

"It's been the best eight years that anybody could have asked for," Tkachuk said in the video. "I feel really grateful to have started my career in Ottawa. Just so grateful for the support that I've had, and that my family has had since day one. When I stepped foot in the city, I truly felt like I belonged.

"A kid that was so naive and had no idea what he was getting himself into. And I just felt the support of teammates that I've played with. I've learned so much from so many guys, and have so many great memories that I'll hold dear to my heart.

"I love you guys, I love the city, I'm going to hold a special place in my heart for (you guys) for the rest of my life."

It's certainly going to be weird for Sens fans, seeing Tkachuk in Panthers' red wearing number 8 next season. But that's pro sports. Very few players ever stay in one place.

Tkachuk wanted a chance to play with his brother, and that's maybe an easier pill to swallow than just wanting more money or disliking the city.

Regardless, breakups are tough, even when you're the one who ended things.
