In the second-to-last game of the regular season, the Philadelphia Flyers take on the New Jersey Devils for the first time since the 2024 Stadium Series, where the pressure is on for the Flyers to take two points if they want to have any chance at making the playoffs.
Honoring Flyers legend Wayne Simmonds at the Wells Fargo Center prior to the game will hopefully give the crowd energy that the team can feed off of to go up against an already-eliminated Devils side, while the Flyers still have something to play for.
The Flyers have proven that they can go toe-to-toe (and win) against the best teams in the league, but they've struggled when it comes to teams that are have worse records than them, or don't have anything to lose.
The Devils have already been eliminated from playoff contention, and have had to fight through plenty of adversity of their own since they beat the Flyers in the stadium. They'll be without Jack Hughes, who was recently announced to have needed shoulder surgery, but the Flyers will need to break their tendency to play down to teams in the position the Devils are in.
Travis Konecny stated the importance of the Flyers being able to block out the outside noise and not get in their own heads, and that will be an important thing for the Flyers in their last two games of the regular season. This season has taken a physical and mental toll on them, but the effort has still been there, because they do care and they do want to make it to the postseason.
The Flyers know who they are, even though they're still rebuilding and still establishing a new culture within the organization. When they can play freely and play comfortably in their identity, they're a dangerous opponent.
With such an emphatic win over the Rangers to snap their eight-game losing streak, the confidence and energy should be high—and if you know anything about this team, it's that they thrive when the vibes are good.
As long as there's even a sliver of a chance, the Flyers will fight for it. Noah Cates said that they're back to being the underdogs, which is "comfortable" territory for them. They've had something to prove all year—right now more than ever—but that's where they like to be. They know what it means, they know what it takes to get it done, and they'll do everything in their control to get to where they want to go.
