The Philadelphia Flyers only needed to wait five days to exact their revenge on the Toronto Maple Leafs, avenging their Mar. 14 loss with an entertaining 4-3 win.
The Flyers needed some big performances tonight, and that's exactly what they got. Owen Tippett, Travis Sanheim, Morgan Frost, and Scott Laughton all scored for the Flyers, while William Nylander, Tyler Bertuzzi, and John Tavares got on the scoresheet for the Maple Leafs.
"They played a good game," head coach John Tortorella stated. "Sam [Ersson] was outstanding...[Toronto] is a tough team. They don't move up or down in the standings, they just play."
Owen Tippett couldn't wait to get the scoring started, putting the Flyers up 1-0 less than a minute after puck drop.
Travis Sanheim got an early goal of his own in the second period (his 9th of the season) to give the Flyers a 2-0 advantage.
Then, Morgan Frost, who already had an assist on Tippett's goal, got one of his own to send the Flyers ahead 3-0.
The Maple Leafs did pull one back in the third period, courtesy of William Nylander, to make it 3-1.
The game got really close after Tyler Bertuzzi put away a second goal for Toronto, bringing the score to a nervy 3-2.
Scott Laughton got involved immediately after serving a hooking penalty, showing a tricky bit of skill to get on the scoresheet and make it 4-2.
The Leafs still had some fight left in them, with John Tavares getting Toronto back within one with just over two minutes left in the game.
The Flyers held on to their 4-3 win, collecting a massive two points to keep their slight edge in third place of the Metro Division.
They will travel down south for their next game, taking on the Carolina Hurricanes on Mar. 21 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
