After today's GM meetings, Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere spoke to E.J. Hradek of NHL Network and revealed that George Parros and the Department of Player Safety was discussed.

The DoPS has long been a topic of discussion and frustration amongst NHL fans. While every fan, person, and general manager is entitled to their opinion, it almost feels like whatever DoPS decides is incorrect.

"We went through the staff of DoPS. Getting a better understanding of what they are going through," Briere said. "How they are built, [and] how they come to decisions. That was a lot of good information."

For outsiders, there is no insight into what goes on during a hearing for a possible suspension. Former NHLer George Parros is the head of the department and has the final say on the rulings.

"Just the process, mostly. Understanding how George gets to a decision," Briere said about what was discussed specifically. "The whole way he gets to it. The reviews and clips, how they come, the talks they have. It was very detailed on how they come to a decision."

One of DoPS's latest decisions was the four-game suspension of New York Rangers winger Matt Rempe. Rempe was suspended for an elbow to the head against the New Jersey Devils.

Flyers winger Nic Deslauriers fought Rempe in an all-time bought the last time the Flyers played the Rangers.

Briere was complimentary of Parros and the DoPS.

"Not an easy job to do, as we all know," Briere said. "It was great to understand their side of why and how they come to a decision."

While no information will be released about what was said during those discussions, the fact that GMs are discussing it means they are keeping a close eye on how DoPS is working.
