As Denver Barkey heads back to the London Knights after spending the last couple of months watching the Philadelphia Flyers' training camp from the sidelines, he reflects on his recovery from illness and coming back a stronger player than before.

The Philadelphia Flyers play their season opener against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 11. They will aim to start their new campaign on the right foot against one of last season's top Western Conference teams.

With the regular season just about here, let's discuss three big predictions for the Flyers.

Sean Couturier Has Big Bounce-Back Year

The 2023-24 season was a tough one for Flyers captain Sean Couturier. In 74 games, the 31-year-old had 11 goals, 38 points, and a minus-10 rating. In addition, he was healthy scratched for the first time in his career.

After a tough year, it would not be particularly surprising if Couturier puts together a bounce-back season. It is important to remember that the veteran forward missed all of the 2022-23 season due to injury, so he naturally had some rust to shake off last season. However, when looking at his excellent resume, don't be surprised if we see his two-way game improve in 2024-25.

    Flyers Trade Joel Farabee

Joel Farabee was a big name in the rumor mill during the 2024 NHL off-season. While the Flyers did not move him this summer, the prospect of it happening during the campaign is undoubtedly there. Right now, Farabee is the odd man out in the Flyers' top six. With Farabee making $5 million per season until 2027-28 and being an offensive player, he may not be the best fit on Philly's third line.

Farabee could be a valuable trade chip for the Flyers to improve their roster elsewhere. It is no secret that they could use some help down the middle and between the pipes. Thus, if the Flyers end up out of the playoff race, don't be surprised if Farabee is moved as we get closer to the deadline.

    Matvei Michkov Wins Calder Trophy

Matvei Michkov had an outstanding pre-season, and Flyers fans are naturally excited to see what he will do during the regular-season. The 19-year-old winger has the potential to make an immediate impact for the Flyers. Because of this, he has a great chance of winning the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's top rookie.

Michkov is coming off a dominant season with Sochi HC of the KHL, posting 19 goals and 41 points in 47 games. Expect him to be a real contender for the Calder this year.
