Fans can expect to see three familiar faces at development camp this week.
Now that the 2026 NHL Draft has concluded, the Philadelphia Flyers will turn their attention towards the start of free agency, as well as the beginning of offseason activities with development camp.
After releasing their development camp roster Sunday morning, we can expect to see three major surprises participating this week.
Chief among those surprises is star prospect Porter Martone, who played in nine regular season games for the Flyers after coming over from the NCAA's Michigan State, as well as 10 playoff games.
Typically, full-time NHLers won't participate in development camp, though Martone, after scoring 10 points in nine games and adding another five in 10 playoff games, will be there.
Notably, the Flyers' release did not denote that Martone will skip on-ice activities. He'll be there in full, ready to go.
Interestingly joining Martone on the ice will be fellow standout prospects Alex Bump and Denver Barkey, who played 23 and 53 games for the Flyers this past season, respectively.
Like Martone, both players are currently expected to be full participants in development camp.
Their decision to participate speaks volumes about their work ethic and drive to win and improve.
In the same vein, the younger, newer Flyers prospects will undoubtedly be looking up to this trio as leaders, which is something the Flyers can't have enough of as they attempt to progress further in their rebuild.
The Flyers' entire 2026 draft class, headlined by massive defenseman Maksim Sokolovskii, will participate in development camp, which opens on Monday afternoon at 2:15 p.m.
Of note, 2024 draft picks Jett Luchanko and Jack Berglund will not participate in on-ice activities, according to the Flyers.
