Another Flyers prospect walks the plank.
The Philadelphia Flyers have sent forward Alex Bump back to the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, marking the official end to his brief stint back in the NHL.
The 22-year-old was recalled on Oct. 19, along with rookie Cole Knuble, ahead of a home game against Colorado, with the Flyers struggling and injuries mounting.
Unfortunately, though, Bump failed to produce in his return to the Flyers. In total, he has played seven games this season with no goals or assists and 16 shots on goal. Knuble, his good friend, has now surpassed him on the depth chart for the time being.
Three of those games came at the beginning of the season, when he went scoreless with four shots while averaging 12:08 a night, before sitting as a healthy scratch against Tampa Bay and subsequently getting demoted to the AHL. In five games since his latest recall, Bump remained without a point, fired 15 shots, and settled into a depth role with second-unit power play minutes.
His AHL production has been the opposite, which was what led to his return to Philadelphia. Bump has scored in all five of his games with the Phantoms this season, tallying seven goals, an assist, and eight points, with two power-play goals and two game-winners. That run included AHL Player of the Week honors and was largely the reason he got the call back to Philadelphia.
The slow start is a sharp turn from last season’s late-season impression. Bump made his NHL debut on March 7, 2026, scoring his first goal in that game against Pittsburgh. He finished with five goals and nine points in 17 regular season games, plus two goals in six playoff games.
A fifth-round pick in 2022, Bump, along with rugged defenseman Hunter McDonald, now returns to a Phantoms lineup where he's been a proven scorer, providing reinforcements to a Lehigh Valley team that has lost some scoring depth between call-ups and injuries. The Flyers host Minnesota on Tuesday.
