An official date could be set for the beginning of the judge and jury trial of the five former Team Canada players being charged with sexual assault after the 2018 World Junior Championship, Rick Westhead reports.
Lawyers for the five players standing trial—who are all being represented separately—were scheduled to make a virtual appearance in London court on the morning of May 14.
As of publication, an official date for the beginning of the trial has not been set, but updates will be provided when a date has been confirmed.
The five players accused of participating in the sexual assault—Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton—have all taken indefinite leaves of absence from their respective teams while they await trial, having surrendered to London police in early February. All five players have maintained their innocence.
Due to how backlogged the London court system is, Westhead also reported that the trial may not happen until "well into 2025."
