The Lehigh Valley Phantoms, driven by their determination and passion, advanced to the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs after a thrilling, high-scoring game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The first 20 minutes was in the Penguins' favor, as they took an early 1-0 lead. While on the power play in the second period, Ronnie Attard was able to equalize the game 1-1, but it was clear that the Phantoms were looking for more.

The Penguins would score two more goals within minutes of each other. With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton having a two-goal lead on the Phantoms, concern began to set in for Lehigh.

The Phantoms knew they were in trouble down 3-1 against the Penguins with 20 minutes remaining in regulation. Momentum seemed to strike with two power-play goals by Emil Andrae and Tanner Laczynski; Lehigh had life back in a tied game of 3-3. Unfortunately, the Penguins were able to regain the lead yet again with nearly three minutes left of play. Luckily, it didn't take long for Laczynski to score to even up the tally.

The two teams couldn't finish the job in regulation, which led to intense short-lived overtime. Forward Jacob Gaucher scored the game-winning goal for the Phantoms two minutes into the extra time.

With a 5-4 win the Phantoms advance. The two-game sweep was a great effort by the Phantoms, who struggled throughout the contest for game 2.

Cal Petersen made 24 saves, helped out by the Phantoms' defense stepping up in big moments to prevent the outcome from being different than what it was.

The Phantoms will face the defending Calder Cup-champion Hershey Bears in Round 2. The Bears will host the Phantoms this on May 1 and May 4.

The Phantoms will host Games 3 and 4, which will take place on May 8 and May 11. This season, the Bears went 8-2-0-2 against the Phantoms.  The momentum of sweeping the Penguins will give Lehigh an extra boost of confidence.
