The Flyers' trade deadline plans for this defenseman may be changing.
For much of this season, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Sean Walker has been a big name in the rumor mill. It is understandable, as he has an expiring contract and would be a notable addition for a playoff club.
However, it appears that a Walker trade is far from guaranteed. According to The Fourth Period's Anthony Di Marco, the Flyers could keep him around as an "own rental" type as they look to cement themselves a playoff spot.
Here is what Di Marco said on the matter: "Even if PHI and Walker can't come to a contract agreement, keeping Walker as an "own rental" could be in the cards. Unless PHI get what they're looking for, they can't justify taking him off their roster and out of the room during a playoff push - contract or not."
It would be understandable if the Flyers kept Walker around if the offers simply aren't good enough for him. They have a real shot of shocking the NHL this season and making the playoffs, so trading away one of their top defensemen for anything less than they are expecting would be quite discouraging.
Walker, 29, has been an excellent addition to the Flyers' roster this season, and it makes sense that their preference is to sign him to a contract extension and keep him in Philly. In 56 games this season with the club, he has five goals, 20 points, and a plus-10 rating.
