The Pittsburgh Penguins may soon be wrapping up their coaching searches.
PITTSBURGH – The NHL Draft and opening of free agency are just a few weeks away and the Pittsburgh Penguins might be closing out their search for openings to their coaching staff. The Penguins have holes to fill for an assistant at the NHL level as well as head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL.
A reports has indicated that close friend of Mike Sullivan, and former head coach of the San Jose Sharks David Quinn will be joining the Penguins coaching staff. According to Tony Androckitis of Inside AHL Hockey and Mike McMahon of College Hockey News, the Penguins may have found their AHL coach.
Nothing has been confirmed, but Androckitis and McMahon have linked Grant Potulny to the Penguins organization. Potulny recently stepped down from his head coaching role at Northern Michigan University after seven years.
In a release from the University, Potulny is leaving to pursue a position at the professional level.
Potulny led his team to four 20-win seasons in his time at Northern Michigan University and reached the conference championship twice. In seven years, Potulny notched a 128-113-17 record.
The Penguins have yet to announce Quinn's or Potulny's hirings, but they hope to wrap up their searches soon.
