The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without Noel Acciari on a day-to-day basis.

Kris Letang believes the Pittsburgh Penguins are on an upward trajectory at the midpoint of the season.

PITTSBURGH – Noel Acciari was an extremely late scratch from the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup when they took on the Carolina Hurricanes. Already down Reilly Smith long-term, the Penguins are about to be without another key forward.

According to Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan, Acciari will be out day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

In the Penguins overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks, Acciari looked to be hampered on a couple of occasions. A shot block to the leg and being tied up with a Canucks skater forced Acciari to sit on the bench in obvious pain.

The following day, the Penguins held an optional practice that Acciari did not take part in. Acciari was on the ice skating on his own and departed before the full practice. Acciari has been a useful piece of the Penguins depth as a key penalty killer and defensive forward.

The Penguins strung together a few games of a mostly healthy roster, but are suddenly down multiple key names. Acciari, Reilly Smith, Matt Nieto, and John Ludvig are all out with various injuries.

Ludvig and Nieto have been placed on long-term injured reserve, while Smith and Acciari are yet to be moved from the active roster.
