The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to move defenseman Will Butcher to the AHL.
After spending the entire 2023 training camp on the injured list, the Pittsburgh Penguins have placed defenseman Will Butcher on waivers.
The Penguins signed Butcher this past summer and were looking to give him a chance, but an injury sidelined him the entire camp and preseason.
As the regular season began, Butcher continued skated on his own and had a stall at the practice facility for some time.
Butcher started the year on the Penguins season-opening injured reserve.
With this move from the Penguins and the recent releasing of Mark Pysyk from a professional tryout with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it might be safe to assume Butcher is healthy and ready to play.
Butcher joined the Penguins organization with some solid NHL experience with 275 career games played and 114 total points (16G-98A).
If the Penguins run into more injury issues on the blue line, Butcher is a useful option.
