Marc-Andre Fleury continues to set himself apart as more than just the greatest goalie in Pittsburgh Penguins history.
PITTSBURGH – Marc-Andre Fleury will always be known as an all-time great with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but his most recent win has set him apart in NHL history. Currently a member of the Minnesota Wild, Fleury notched his eighth win of the season giving him 552 in his career.
With his 552nd career win, Fleury surpasses Patrick Roy and slides into sole possession of second most wins in NHL history. Fleury now sits behind only Martin Brodeur on the NHL’s all-time wins list. Brodeur holds the record with a likely untouchable 691.
Fleury is in his 20th NHL season and spent 13 of those years stopping pucks as a member of the Penguins. During his time in Pittsburgh, Fleury won three Stanley Cup championships, notched a 375-216-68 record and set the standard for goaltending in black and gold.
Since leaving the Penguins in 2017, Fleury went on to backstop the Vegas Golden Knights to the Cup Final in their first year of existence and secure a well-deserved Vezina Trophy in 2021.
Fleury has spent most of the 2023-24 season solidifying his Hall of Fame career; the numbers haven’t been great with an 8-9-3 record, but he recently reached the ultra-rare 1,000 games played mark. For a goalie, that is an almost unheard-of number.
Just about every Penguins franchise goaltending record is held by Fleury and while he hasn’t played a game with them in over seven years, he still has plenty of fans in Pittsburgh.
The Wild also announced that they will be celebrating Fleury's career and his accomplishments when the Penguins visit Minnesota shortly after the All-Star break.
