The Pittsburgh Penguins have hit the road for a three-game road trip, and they are brining along some extra faces that haven’t seen the ice in some time.
According to Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan, injured forwards Rickard Rakell, Noel Acciari, and defenseman Chad Ruhwedel are all traveling with the team.
Sullivan stated that Rakell and Ruhwedel have started skating as part of their rehabilitation process.
Acciari is on the trip, but Sullivan said he ‘doesn’t anticipate’ him appearing in any of the next three games; Acciari is not yet skating after suffering a lower-body injury.
Sullivan doesn't believe Acciari will be out long-term.
Rakell and Ruhwedel have missed the last six games with their injuries; Rakell an upper-body and Ruhwedel a lower-body.
Both players were placed on injured reserve, but Rakell was separated to long-term status.
Rakell and Ruhwedel also skated on their own in Pittsburgh prior to joining the team in Philadelphia.
Matt Nieto was recently placed on injured reserve by the Penguins and is not with the team on the trip.
P.O. Joseph is also still on injured reserve, but is with the team and took part in the morning skate ahead of their game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
