The Pittsburgh Penguins are on the doorstep of securing a spot in the 2024 NHL Playoffs.

PITTSBURGH – After completely turning their season around, the Pittsburgh Penguins could be on the cusp of locking down a playoff berth. An overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings put the Penguins back into the Eastern Conference’s second wild card spot and one step closer to a return to the postseason.

The Penguins have three games remaining but could make their last contest meaningless if the cards fall the right way for them. It’s a tall task, but a win over the Boston Bruins would put them in prime position.

A win from the Penguins, paired with losses to the Red Wings and Washington Capitals, would put Pittsburgh in the driver’s seat. If that is the outcome of Saturday, the Penguins would just need one point in either of their last two games to reach the playoffs.

The Penguins enter their matchup with the Bruins as underdogs; moneypuck.com gives them a 41.5% chance of winning. These two teams also play the primetime contest while the Capitals take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the late afternoon.

The outcome of that matchup will be known before the Penguins hit the ice. The Lightning are heavy favorites against the Capitals, with a 60% chance of victory.

The Red Wings travel to face the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the odds are heavily in favor of the home team. The Maple Leafs have a 67.8% chance of winning.

With a 7-0-3 record in their last 10 games, the Penguins are the hottest team in the NHL right now. It’ll still be a rough night trying to take down a team they’ve historically struggled against, but they have a chance to make what seemed impossible a reality.

The last two games of the Penguins season are at home against the Nashville Predators then on Long Island against the New York Islanders. If the Penguins get the chips to fall their way on Saturday, then take a point against the Predators, they can rest everyone on the Island.
