A five-game win streak and multiple surging players has pushed the Pittsburgh Penguins further up the standings.
After a victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Pittsburgh Penguins are winners of five straight and are taking over as a top tier team in the NHL.
Not only are the Penguins a top team, but with five consecutive wins, they are the hottest team in the league.
Captain Sidney Crosby and Erik Karlsson have been lynchpins for the recent success and are on solid streaks of their own.
Crosby has been held without a point in just one game so far this season and recently popped off for a hat trick in the win over the Blue Jackets.
Karlsson has put up 11 points during his recent six-game point streak.
With a five-game winning streak, the Penguins have the longest active winning streak in the NHL and are outscoring opponents 25-8 in that time.
The perfect streak and surge of offense ironically coincided with the turn of the calendar to November.
It’s still a tight race in the Eastern Conference as the Penguins and their 16 standings points is locked in a three-way tie with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens.
Three of the Penguins’ next four games are against Metropolitan Division opponents and will have huge implications on the standings moving forward.
