Mike Sullivan puts an end to the rumors that he would leave the Pittsburgh Penguins for the New York Rangers.
The Pittsburgh Penguins missed the playoffs for the first time since 2006 and a number of fans want to go scorched earth on the team.
They want to see a new general manager (which is coming), a new group of players, and some have questioned Mike Sullivan’s position with the Penguins.
With a job opening up with the New York Rangers, the rumors began to spill out that Sullivan could be on the road to Broadway.
It didn’t take long for Penguins fans to find the move ridiculous, but it also took no time for Sullivan to have a similar response.
The initial rumor really took off with a tweet by Larry Brooks of the New York Post.
Brooks stated that if Kyle Dubas was hired by the Penguins it would set off a chain reaction that would push Sullivan to the Rangers.
Sullivan recently told the New York Post that he has no intentions of leaving Pittsburgh.
“I am under contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins,” Sullivan told the Post. “Here for the long haul.”
The idea of Sullivan going to the Rangers was always far-fetched on multiple levels, but this can finally put an end to that idea.
Last summer, Sullivan signed a contract that doesn’t kick in until the 2024-25 season; he’s also playing a role in finding a new general manager for the Penguins.
No matter what people say about the job Sullivan has done with the Penguins recently, he isn’t going anywhere.
