The former president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins has found a new job outside of the NHL.

Brian Burke’s newest gig following his time as president of hockey operations of the Pittsburgh Penguins will see him take on a completely new role.

The former Penguins president has been reportedly hired to serve in a leadership role for the Professional Women’s Hockey League Players Association (PWHLPA).

Burke is set to play a guiding role with professional women’s players and their union as they recently ratified a collective bargaining agreement in July.

He will work closely with league owners and help push the league forward in a successful way.

Over the last 35+ years, Burke has held numerous roles in NHL front offices and had been an advocate for equality in the sport of hockey.

While general manager of the Anaheim Ducks, Burke won the Stanley Cup in 2007.

Burke’s involvement with the PWHLPA could close the ties between the new professional women’s league and the NHL.

During his time with the NHL, Burke served as the league’s director of hockey operations for six seasons.

The new women’s league is slated to begin play in January of 2024.
