The Pittsburgh Penguins gained a quality prospect in Brayden Yager as a first-round pick.

Pittsburgh Penguins new President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas discusses the Penguins needs heading into this week's NHL Draft and the opening of free agency.

Kyle Dubas said he wanted to keep the Pittsburgh Penguins’ first-round pick at the 2023 NHL Draft, and he did just that and took a highly touted prospect.

With the 14th overall pick in the 2023 Draft, the Penguins selected Brayden Yager from the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL.

This selection was a long time in the making as the Penguins took Yager out to dinner at the Draft Combine earlier in the month.

Yager was voted as the 2022 CHL Rookie of the Year with 59 points in 63 games.

In 2022-23, Yager took a step forward by accumulating 78 total points in 67 games.

Yager is a six-foot tall center that should shoot right near the top of the Penguins’ prospect pool.

According to Inside the Penguins’ Jacob Punturi, Yager can reach the NHL by the 2025-26 season and is comparable to Jordan Eberle.
