The Pittsburgh Penguins moved back a spot and added a seventh round pick to select Emil Pieniniemi.

Pittsburgh Penguins new President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas discusses his desire to hold onto "younger assets" including last years 1st round pick Owen Pickering, and the 14th overall selection in this year's draft.

After having the full second round of the 2023 NHL Draft off, the Pittsburgh Penguins have returned with a third round selection.

The Penguins traded their initial third round pick to the New York Rangers in exchange for their seventh round pick.

The trade moved the Penguins back by only a single slot and they selected Emil Pieniniemi with the 91st overall pick.

Pieniniemi is a 6-foot-2, 175 pound left-shot defensemen from Kuopio, Finland; he played the 2022-23 season with the Karpat U20 team and recorded 13 points in 31 games.

In five games played at the World Junior Championship, Pieninemi recorded a single assist.

Pieniniemi is slated to return to Finland in 2023-24 to play with Karpat’s professional Liiga team.
