The Pittsburgh Penguins take a Russian forward with their fifth-round pick at the 2023 NHL Draft.

Pittsburgh Penguins new President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas discusses the Penguins needs heading into this week's NHL Draft and the opening of free agency.

The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to add to their pool of prospects with youngsters from across the pond.

With their fifth-round pick of the 2023 NHL Draft, the Penguins have selected Mikhail Ilyin from Cherepovets, Russia.

Ilyin played most of his 2022-23 season with Almaz Cherepovets of Russia’s MHL and recorded 26 points in 28 games.

In 21 games at the KHL level, Ilyin picked up a pair of assists.

Ilyin stands at six-feet tall and weighs in at 181 pounds as an 18-year-old forward.

It is likely Ilyin will continue to play in the KHL for at least the 2023-24 season.
