Alex Nedeljkovic has a perfect opportunity to reclaim footing in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Alex Nedeljkovic has a perfect opportunity to reclaim footing in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Heading into training camp, it was a guarantee that Alex Nedeljkovic would walk out as the Pittsburgh Penguins backup goalie.

With the regular season right around the corner, however, Nedeljkovic has been given ample opportunity and is proving to be an outstanding option for the Penguins.

Every chance Nedeljkovic has been given, he’s risen to the occasion; from camp to preseason games, he’s looked calm and collected every step of the way.

Nedeljkovic has appeared in three preseason games and while the team hasn't looked fantastic, he has certainly stood out.

Beyond just helping the Penguins as a backup netminder, Nedeljkovic is looking to regain some footing in the NHL.

In his first full season at the NHL level, Nedeljkovic was one of the most promising goalies in the league.

Nedeljkovic put up a 15-5-3 record and notched a .932 save percentage with a 1.90 goals against average.

Ever since departing the Carolina Hurricanes that offseason, he hasn’t looked the same, finding himself back in the AHL at times.

Nedeljkovic joins the Penguins with a new opportunity to prove his worth; he’s in Pittsburgh on a one-year deal, and likely hopes to one day become a starter in the league again.

While playing behind Tristan Jarry, Nedeljkovic will be a backup for a time, but could easily command a few more starts than a guy like Casey DeSmith could.

The Penguins have a great one-two punch with Jarry and Nedeljkovic; both are guys looking for bounce backs and should get a tremendous effort every night they’re between the pipes.

It'll be important for Nedeljkovic specifically as he looks to get his career back to where it once was.
