Noel Acciari fills a certain role for the Pittsburgh Penguins and he is ready for the call.
With Kyle Dubas at the helm for the Pittsburgh Penguins, a number of overhaul changes were made to the lineup.
Among those additions was Noel Acciari who joins the Penguins on a three-year deal that is worth $2 million annually.
There is all kinds of competition for bottom six forward roles, but Acciari has a leg up on the competition thanks to a few special attributes.
Acciari joins the Penguins organization and is expected to bring not just a solid defensive mindset, but also fierce physically.
When asked what he can bring to the lineup, Acciari noted his physicality and defensive stature.
“A physical presence and a good defensive mind,” Acciari said. “Take pride in not getting scored on and being good on the PK.”
The Penguins and head coach Mike Sullivan love a forward who is able to play both ends of the rink and Acciari will fit that bill exactly.
Acciari isn’t bringing an overwhelming scoring touch, but he knows it’s important to contribute.
“This league is a four-line league now,” Acciari said. “If you don’t have four line that can play it’s tough to go far.”
When the season gets underway, it’s pretty likely Acciari is a focal point of the depth forwards and he looks to chip in wherever and whenever needed.
“Do everything I can to help the team succeed,” Acciari said. “Throw a hit, block a shot. Little things.”
