The Pittsburgh Penguins travel to Detroit for an afternoon matchup against the Red Wings.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have just three games remaining in the regular season, with one point separating them from their 17th straight postseason appearance. With another can't lost matchup ahead, the Penguins square off against the Detroit Red Wings.
1. Sidney Crosby Nearing 1,500
With just three games left, Sidney Crosby is just three points away from 1,500 in his career. When he reaches the mark, he’ll become the sixth fastest player to achieve the feat in league history. While making the playoffs is Sid’s greater goal, it’s likely that he can achieve both with three classic, Crosby games. The Penguins need the absolute best version of their captain against the Red Wings, and that should help propel him even closer to this incredible personal achievement.
2. Rickard Rakell Raking on the Power Play
The Penguins have gotten more than advertised from Rickard Rakell, with the winger putting up his best offensive numbers since the 2017-18 season. Part of his success has been his power play contributions. He leads the Penguins with 11 power play goals, and he’s been red hot with the man advantage of late. He has two power play goals in the last three games, and he’ll be looking for another one in a must-win game against the Wings.
3. Tristan Jarry Moving Up
If Tristan Jarry secures the net and a victory against the Red Wings, it will put him into a tie with Matt Murray for the third most wins in Penguins' history. Jarry currently sits at 116 wins, and in need of one not win to tie Murray’s 117 wins. Standing ahead are the two greatest goaltenders to ever backstop the Penguins: Marc-Andre Fleury and Tom Barrasso. The Penguins need a sensational game from Jarry in order to win, and it would put the goaltender in some elite Pittsburgh company.
