The Pittsburgh Penguins are slotting Jeff Carter in the lineup for what could be his final appearance in Los Angeles.

Jeff Carter has been a healthy scratch from the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup for the past two games, but will slot back in against the Los Angeles Kings.

While the fan base might not be overly amped to see Carter slot back in to the Penguins lineup, this contest carries a nice sentiment for the veteran forward.

At the age of 38, Carter is skating in what could be his final season in the NHL; nothing is certain from Carter’s end, but it seems fairly likely.

In 1,258 career games played, Carter has recorded 431 goals and 405 assists for 836 total points.

Over his 19-year career, Carter won the Stanley Cup twice with the Kings and was an integral part of both runs.

Aside from being an important piece of the Kings’ postseason success, Carter became a fan favorite over his 10 season in Los Angeles.

194 goals in a Kings uniform places him tied for 10th all-time in franchise history in that category; 44 game winning goals places Carter fifth in Kings history.

Carter was an important piece of the Kings franchise for so many years, he deserves a chance for a proper send off in front of those fans.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said players always get up for games against their former team, and that should be no different for Carter.

“I’m sure it’ll be a big one for Carts,” Sullivan said. “We know he’ll give our guys a big boost when he’s in the lineup tonight.”

Carter was replaced with Vinnie Hinostroza in the previous two contests and it isn’t certain this maneuver will last, but for now, it’s what the Penguins are rolling with.

In nine games played this season, Carter is yet to score a point and is sure to look to kick things into gear in his old barn.
