Sidney Crosby on Career Best Goal Scoring Pace

The Pittsburgh Penguins are getting unbeatable numbers from Sidney Crosby, yet they're struggling to win games.

The Pittsburgh Penguins as a team haven’t had a great start to the season, but even at the age of 36, Sidney Crosby has been productive as ever.

In 19 games, Crosby is leading the Penguins in points with 23 and is only two goals back of the league lead with 13.

That kind of pace is setting Crosby up to set some career high notes and make some history along the way.

With 13 goals through 19 games, Crosby is in the midst of the second best goal scoring pace to start a year in his career.

The only other time he’s scored more through 19 games of a season was in 2016-17 when he opened the year with 16 tallies.

Crosby ended up leading the league in goals with 44 and taking home his second career Rocket Richard Trophy.

At this moment, Crosby is on pace for a career-high 56 goals, surpassing his previous high of 51 in 2009-10 when he was just 22.

Through 19 games of that season, Crosby only scored nine goals and eight assists.

Currently, the Penguins sport a power play that lacks both power and play and is without doubt holding not only the team back from winning, but Crosby from being a real threat in so many races.

If Crosby and the Penguins could score a bit more on the power play, there’s no reason why he couldn’t be in the Rocket Richard conversation or even the Art Ross race.

At his age, Crosby will likely need the Penguins to reach the postseason for him to have any chance of possibly being up for another Hart Trophy as league MVP.

Considering how the Penguins look, if they make the postseason, it’ll mostly be because of Crosby and his ridiculous numbers.
