Tonight kicks off an important stretch of games for the Pittsburgh Penguins starting goaltender.
Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry has not had the season anybody would have hoped for. Jarry's issues staying healthy and in the lineup have clouded the outlook on his potential as a starter in the NHL.
Jarry has missed the Penguins last three games due to a lower-body injury but has served as backup to Casey DeSmith in the previous two. Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan rode the hot hand with DeSmith against the Detroit Red Wings, but the 31-year-old backup crumbled down the stretch, allowing two goals in the final five minutes.
The Penguins bench boss will likely go with Jarry, as long as he's healthy, to get the team back on track tonight against the Nashville Predators.
With eight games left in the season and the playoffs on the line, this could be Jarry's last chance to salvage what's left of this season. Fortunately, Jarry has performed well against the Penguins remaining opponents this season, with a 5-1-2 record and a .906 save percentage.
Goaltender movement is becoming more frequent across the NHL. The Toronto Maple Leafs, Washington Capitals, and Carolina Hurricanes are among the teams who have completely revamped their goaltending situation in the past year, and the Penguins could be next.
Tonight begins Jarry's last chance to prove why he deserves to be part of that equation in Pittsburgh.
