Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby has made a habit out of starting strong.
The NHL has named Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby their third star of the week. Crosby scored seven points (5G-2A) in four games this past week, including a four-point performance against the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he tallied his 13th career hat trick.
Crosby's notable week only adds to his dominant start to the 2023-24 season. Through 17 games, the Penguins' captain has 22 points (12G-10A) and has registered a point in all but two games this season. His point total is the highest through the first 17 games of the season since 2014-15, when he scored 26 points (8G-18A).
Unsurprisingly, Crosby has registered at least a point per game through 17 games in all but four seasons in his professional career. His 12 goals are the second-most in his career, only trailing his 15 goals to start the 2016-17 season.
Crosby is currently on pace to score 45 goals and 106 points this season. That would make him the third oldest player in NHL history to reach the 100-point mark in a single season behind Hockey Hall of Famers Gordie Howe and Joe Sakic.
