The San Jose Sharks called up Danil Gushchin on Monday as they continue their search for offense.

"Exciting moment for me," Gushchin said about his reaction. "I called my family. [It's a] good opportunity for me to play some NHL games."

Gushchin is the San Jose Barracuda's leading scorer with 13 points in 11 games.

Last night, the Sharks lost to the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 and now have scored just four goals across eight road games. Luke Kunin has two of them.

Gushchin's ability to shoot and generate offense likely got him called up. Anthony Duclair has been dealing with an illness, and it is unknown how long he will be out, so that may have played a part.

"I know, just shoot more pucks and score goals," Gushchin said about his season in the AHL.

Sharks head coach David Quinn wouldn't commit to this full-time call-up or a look-and-see situation.

"His play will determine that," Quinn said. "You go into these situations, and you want to let his play determine how long he's going to be here. He's got an opportunity."

As for what got him the call-up:

"He is a guy that creates offense, and he can be dynamic," Quinn said. "Those are the things that he can add to a line. He's been able to be somewhat productive when he's played in exhibition games and even some of the games at this level. So hopefully, it carries over starting tomorrow."

Gushchin was on a line with Mikael Granlund and Luke Kunin at practice today. He was also on the second powerplay unit.

The Sharks face the Florida Panthers tomorrow, and all signs point to Gush being in the lineup.
