Kevin Labanc has played two games this season after being a healthy scratch to start the season.
Kevin Labanc is in the last year of his contract with the San Jose Sharks this season.
Head Coach David Quinn scratched Labanc for the first three games of the season due to an injury in training camp that "put him behind."
Then there were the waiver rumors. As confirmed by the Sharks, Labanc was never even discussed to be put on waivers.
Labanc has finally entered the lineup, and although he has yet to score a point, he has been effective.
The Sharks have struggled to have extended time in the offensive zone. In his two games played, Kevin Labanc has begun to help change that.
According to the new NHL EDGE tracking data, Labanc has spent 48.4% of his TOI with the puck in the offensive zone. That is considered above league average and is ranked in the 94th percentile.
For a team that has struggled to put shots on goal, Kevin Labanc has also helped change that trend.
Labanc has five shots through two games, and in those two games, the Sharks have had their highest shot totals of the season.
Labanc has four hits this season and has been noticeably more physical in puck battles. After his game against the Boston Bruins, DQ noticed this as well.
I thought he was skating. He was physical. He had the puck a lot," Quinn said. "Usually, when that happens, good things happen."
Labanc is projected to play on a line with William Eklund and Jacob Peterson tonight against the Florida Panthers. If Labanc keeps playing like this, he should remain in the lineup for the San Jose Sharks.
